A ceremony where the bride and groom are smeared with a paste made from chickpea flour, turmeric, rose water and a few other important ingredients.

 

The paste when rubbed on is excellent for the skin, it evens out skin tone. It is a cleanser for the body, and soul.

 

It signifies the bride’s preparation and welcoming into adult married life. There’s a belief that if the bride or groom rubs pithi paste on an unmarried individual, it increases their possibility of getting married.
